Two-Stroke April-June 1971

  • Editorial
  • DKW spares situation - Auto-Union's UK concession confirms DKW spare part are still available.
  • DKW F102 - some owners have not understood the gearbox lubrication requirements. The freewheel is also subject to excessive wear. Electrical issues include intermittent generator charging, fuses, petrol gauge problems. It would be fair to say the DKW F102 was not the best DKW car. An improvement over the F12 but a significantly poorer build than the earlier F91 and F93.
  • DKW F7 history. The F7 is the archetypal pre-war DKW.
  • The DKW STM project. In 1954 began a project to build a small budget car to capitalize on the microcar boom of the mid-50s, but the project ran into problems from the start. The company struggled to conceptualize just what they were trying build and years were wasted exploring a variety of designs. The car that eventually hit the road, albeit in prototype form, was the STM. It had a twin cylinder 400c engine and a Duraplast, plastic body. The car was expected to go into production in 1957, but the new management of Auto-Union cancelled the project and began work on a design that would become the DKW Junior.
